Musical Motivation Monday – Week One

Heatherstewart2It’s MONDAY!!! Day 4 of our journey to the moon. Every journey begins with that first step. We are like children learning to stand; we need something to hold on to, to brace us as we pull ourselves up and get our feet under us so that we can take that first step.  This walk, Walk Your A.S. Off, is our something sturdy, that we will be holding on to as we gain the courage to stand and then walk for ourselves, our friends, our loved ones, and those around the world who have Ankylosing Spondylitis.
Raising awareness for a disease that few people know or even understand about is a daunting task. It takes courage to step off, put that one foot in front of the other and let your voice be heard. Believe it or not, I am a fairly shy person and talking to some random person about one of my chronic diseases is very difficult. I have some suggestions for those of us on the shy side.
–          Wear your team logo while you walk…someone is bound to ask you about it.
–          Walking in public? If you see someone with a dog or with a pedometer strike up a conversation and work your way to A.S.
–          At work – send out a non-work related email to your co-workers (let them know in the subject) tell them you are counting steps and why and to encourage you to walk by asking you to get things for them.
–          Going to the doctor (any doctor) tell them you’re being more active and how your steps count for A.S. Awareness.
This should get you going and talking. Remember – all it takes is putting that one foot in front of the other.
