Hi Everyone! My name is Jenna and I can’t wait to get walking tomorrow. I am the woman behind the scenes of Walk Your A.S. Off and I look forward to getting to know you all. I need help and accountability to keep moving and I know if I do then lots of people do which is a big part of the reason I started this community project. Let’s walk our A.S. off – or at least make our joints and muscles stronger – every amount of effort counts and helps.
My goal is to “train” to be able to make the million step club and challenge we hold during our yearly Walk Your A.S. Off event each March 1st to World A.S. Day (first Saturday of May) I fell very short in our inaugural year where as a group we circled the globe in steps made in the name of Ankylosing Spondylitis. That’s my goal – what’s yours? Again – welcome!

hi there…I would really like to do this and signed up twice but didnt get the link emailed to click on and verify? …suggestions?

      • Jennifer Dye Visscher says:

Louise – How odd. I just tested it and it worked for me. Please if you will give it one more try at this link
http://eepurl.com/oRsYn The walk kit email doesn’t arrive for 24 hours via autoresponder. Unfortunately I can’t set it up to come any quicker. Once you sign up at this link you will have to confirm the subscription to be added to the list. Please email me at [email protected] if this doesn’t work and I’ll add you manually. Sorry for the trouble – we’ll get the kinks worked out! – Jenna

I’ve been tracking steps every day since March. I’ve noticed a big change in how I feel both physically and mentally. Let’s keep walking. Thanks, Jenna.

Stephen – that is so great to hear! Wow – that is exactly why we started this walk & website. I’m beyond happy to hear that. Would you consider writing a guest post for us talking about your experience? You are right – let’s keep walking! – Jenna

Ready for another year here! I’ve been down with health issues for months and really needed this boost to get me going again. I’m riding more this more so I’d love those conversions you were using last year. Bike miles to steps?

    • Jennifer Dye Visscher says:

Hey Sabrina! That’s wonderful you are biking 🙂 So the way we convert steps is pretty simple. On average you can calculate 2000 steps per mile when you walk so that is what we do for biking or rowing or any physical activity where you go a trackable distance. So you log a heck of a lot of steps on a bike ride! This is about being active so we love having you convert your miles to steps! So glad you are joining the Walk Club! – Jenna

Hi Louise! We’re going to have a great time together and keep each other motivated! Currently we are doing a Walk Club session. It’s our first one 🙂 and all sessions are 10 weeks. Simply sign up over to the left where it says “Sign Up for Walk Your A.S. Off” or go to the more info tab on the top of this page – that takes you to a sign up form too. Within a day you will receive your Walk Kit that has a log sheet you can print or an excel file if you prefer. Welcome! – Jenna

Hi All…I am excited to walk my A.S. off. I am so tired of being in too much pain to excercise…I recently had signed up for warrior dash in ct….but backed out and had to not beat myself up about it…DANG A.S…but I will focus now on what I CAN do rather then what I can not! Let’s enjoy this journey together:-)

    • Jennifer Dye Visscher says:

Welcome Louise! So glad you joined us. I couldn’t have said it better – we have to focus on what we can do! On the days we can – we must. On the days we can’t we accept. Walking on one day at an event is very intimidating and it could fall on a day that we aren’t able to do much which is why this walk club is so wonderful. It is a place we just encourage one another to do what we can and maybe do a little more day by day as we feel stronger. Enjoy your walks this week! – Jenna

Hi. I’m Jennifer and I have walked with a pedometer for years. Before my AS got really bad I would walk 12000-15000 steps a day. Now I’m lucky if I walk 10,000 a day. I still try to get as many steps in as possible though. Every little bit helps… I’m hoping this walking club will help to get me motivated again.
Where do we log our first week of steps?
